All the latest news and views from Stamford Bridge…
With the ambiguous nature of Ashley Cole's problematic rib injury and Liverpool's apparent £8m interest in Ryan Bertrand, Chelsea could be light in the left back department by the winter window.
The Daily Mail have reported on a remedy… and claim Jose Mourinho will raid his former club, Real Madrid, for Fabio Coentrao, who was seemingly available for transfer during the summer but saw his prospective move to Manchester United break down at the 11th hour.
Initially, Coentrao would be sounded out over a temporary deal, to last until the end of the season but, should the club not agree to extension of the length of Cole's contract, which expires in the summer of 2014, then the Portuguese defender could be signed to a longer deal.
Meanwhile, Chelsea's on-loan star striker, who the Premier League claim is the deadliest finisher in the history of the competition in it's modern format (returning a goal every 118 minutes), is actually helping the Blues with their push for the Premier League crown even though they are not directly benefitting from his goals.
Everton defender Phil Jagielka is quoted by Daily Mirror to have said: 'It's not a bad idea and a way at looking at things from Chelsea's perspective. I think he made the right decision [to leave for a season to get regular first team football. That's already been proven and we're only a third the way through the season.
'Potentially it can work for Chelsea. He can't play against Chelsea, but can against everyone else. If he helps us perform against the so-called big boys and rivals of Chelsea, then it will be a very good decision by them.'
And finally, Thorgan Hazard, the younger brother of Eden, on loan from Chelsea to Zulte Waregem scored against Wigan Athletic in the club's 2-1 win at the DW Stadium in the Europa League - video below…
