On this day: Release clause alerts Arsenal, Strootman admits Manchester United interest

On the 28th November 2012 what were the stories that dominated the football landscape? Including Manchester United, Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur.

I am casting my eye back to this exact day, the 28th November 2013, but a year earlier.

What were the main tales from that day? What big events were happening in Premier League football?

Here are some of the big scoops from the 28th November 2012…

We Gotze

It was exactly a year ago that it became clear that Borussia Dortmund playmaker Mario Gotze had a release clause in his contract.

The German international was reportedly catching the eye of Manchester United and Arsenal - and after his release clause of what was originally believed to be €30 million was announced (in the end the clause turned out to be at a figure of €37 million) that interest obviously heightened.

Of course he eventually agreed a deal to sign for Bayern Munich in April this year - becoming the most expensive German of all time, before Mesut Ozil claimed that accolade.

We need to talk about Kevin

Dutch international Kevin Strootman was linked with a move to Manchester United. His agent Chiel Dekker made it clear that the talented midfielder wanted the move by stating:

“All the top clubs in Europe know about Kevin, but a move to England next summer is his first priority and, yes, Manchester United and other big clubs in Europe have been in touch with me.”

Of course, despite the £20 million interest from Old Trafford, he ended up signing for Serie A outfit AS Roma in a €19 million deal from PSV Eindhoven.

Gareth pays his Bale

There was almost a full fixture of Premier League action this time last year - and the stand-out game was that played between Liverpool and Tottenham.

Spurs beat Liverpool 2-1, ending an eight game unbeaten streak from The Reds, as Aaron Lennon and Gareth Bale scored in the opening 16 minutes.

Bale made life difficult by scoring a comical own goal later on in proceedings - but Spurs had done enough to earn victory.
