The news Roy Hodgson wanted to hear came, Joe Hart was recalled to Manchester City's side.
Joe Hart being dropped seemed unthinkable not so long ago, but this season it ended up becoming inevitable.
Many goalkeepers have bounced back from such a temporary benching, most recently David de Gea and Wojciech Szczesny at Manchester United and Arsenal, who were both taken out of the firing line by their bosses during spells of poor form.
It doesn't help Hart that his replacement Costel Pantilimon has not put a foot wrong in goal, but manager Manuel Pellegrini recalled the England stopper for the Champions League tie with Viktoria Plzen, a non-risk game you could call it, with City already qualified.
Hart had plenty to deal with, and had to pick the ball out of his net twice, with City winning 4-2.
Neither goal he could do much about, and made four saves from Plzen's other efforts on target.
He even picked up some praise from Plzen's manager Pavel Vrba: "Joe Hart played very well. I think we could have scored more goals tonight."
After this weekend's home fixture with Swansea, they try to improve their poor away record at West Brom, before a tough visit to Southampton, at a ground where they lost last season.
Making an important, and correct call with their goalkeepers is going to be important, if they are going to pick up wins on their travels.
Here's a look at what City fans were saying about his performance via Twitter:
Harty's back! Harty's back! Joe Hart is back! It makes me really happy when I see him in the line-up. Ah, the good old days. #MCFC— Lilith Valentine (@womanoflondon) November 27, 2013
Will be disappointed if hart starts on Sunday. Distinctly average tonight and his distribution is still terribly wasteful. #mcfc— Christopher Bennett (@chrisbezzin) November 27, 2013
Another game that proved Joe Hart should be playing all the time #mcfc— Ben Leeson (@BenLeeson98) November 27, 2013
Good result in the end and another win in Europe, Joe hart with some very good saves as well shame he couldn't get a clean sheet tho,,#MCFC— Andy McFc Simpson (@simmocity85) November 27, 2013
Joe Hart's performance is one of the few positives from todays game but it doesn't matter how you win them as long as you win them! #MCFC— Kristian Fearon (@Foran92) November 27, 2013
Nice result from #MCFC today. Hart should start this weekend. Let the run begin.— Tom Quinlan (@TommyQ1510) November 27, 2013
