Ex-Arsenal defender Andre Santos sent off, but wins Brazilian Cup final

Former Arsenal man Andre Santos is a champion in Brazil.

This time last year Andre Santos was in the doghouse after swapping shirts at half-time with Manchester United's Robin van Persie.

Now the defender is back home in his own country, and is celebrating winning a trophy last night, featuring as Flamengo defeated Atletico Paranaense 2-0 in the Brazilian Cup Final.

Santos has since become the 24th player to leave Arsenal to win a major trophy, since the Gunners last did in 2005.

The two teams were deadlocked for nearly the entire contest at the Maracana, until Elias scored an 88th minute opener. Two minutes later Hernane scored a second to put the game beyond doubt.

The match had one final twist - with two red cards - one for former Gunner Andre Santos, who was involved in a clash with an opponent after the second goal.

Still, as you can see from the photo above of Santos posing with the trophy, he certainly didn't let his late dismissal sour the occasion.

For every winner however, there is a loser - and another former Arsenal man Fran Merida, who plays for Atletico Paranaense left disappointed.
