Did Diego check out London ahead of Arsenal transfer?

Wolfsburg

Arsenal linked Diego was in London last weekend. An innocent explanation?

Diego’s contract with his employer Bundesliga’s VfL Wolfsburg is about to expire next summer. The dynamic attacking midfielder is then up for grabs on the transfer market.

The 28-year-old, who had a £23m price tag and hit his best form alongside Mesut Ozil with Werder Bremen, still receives a lot of credit.

Martin Winterkorn, chairman of automotive company Volkswagen and ergo of VfL Wolfsburg too, said:

"I'm not one who likes the good players to go. And Diego is a good player. The team is clearly stronger with him."

It seems that Diego Ribas da Cunha is wanted at Wolfsburg and could resign with them. But rumour has it that other teams are eying him too. Arsenal FC, Southampton FC and his old team Santos FC are in the mix for the Brazilian ace too.

Diego was not shy to stress his feelings by saying:

“I know there is interest from Premier League clubs. I have heard Arsenal is one of them. It would be the ideal destination for me because their style suits my characteristics perfectly. Of course I would say yes to Arsenal.”

Southampton have great organisation and discipline and big talents like Adam Lallana. But again there is nothing concrete.”

“Playing in England is a very attractive option at the peak of my career but I'm focusing on helping Wolfsburg get to the Champions League.”

About the alleged interest of his former Brazilian club Santos FC Diego said according to Brazilian median Globoesporte: “I always have my love for Santos confessed publicly. Santos is my first option.”

So apparently Diego loves everyone. That’s not helping. But one hint might point to a possible destination.

Last weekend he posted a picture with him and his son in London. Coincidence after all these transfer rumours?

Why hasn’t he made a trip to – let’s say – any other city in Europe? Maybe it was coincidence, but it rather looks like he and his family checked out their new home city before he might sign a contract with Arsenal.

What do you think?
