Yesterday, Here Is The City highlighted how Chelsea's abysmal striking statistics were underlined in their underwhelming 1-0 loss to FC Basel in their Champions League group game on Tuesday, November 26.
Diagnosing the problem, the printed press have written extensively at how manager Jose Mourinho is looking to find the remedy immediately, by returning to his former club FC Porto with a £33m bid in order to enter personal term negotiations with their star striker Jackson Martinez, who is currently returning a goal and assist at a rate of one per 99 minutes in the Primeira Liga.
According to The Mirror, Martinez's agent - Henrique Pompeo - has already met with Blues owner Roman Abramovich in London in order to smooth over the deal, however, the transfer hinges on Porto failing to reach the last 16 stage of the Champions League, otherwise the Portuguese outfit would prefer keeping hold of their asset until the end of the season.
Martinez, though, is apparently Chelsea's back-up option as they remain committed to primary target Radamel Falcao, who has returned nine goals from 13 Ligue 1 appearances for AS Monaco so far this season.
The Mirror also speculate that it will not be all one-way traffic as Chelsea could be interested in offloading defender Ryan Bertrand, who is apparently interesting Liverpool for £8m.
Chelsea play Southampton on Sunday, December 1.
