Nemanja Matic is not one for scoring goals - but he scored in consecutive games for the first time in his career this week.
They sometimes say that girls are like buses, you wait for ages and then two come along at once. For Nemanja Matic it seems that the spelling of ‘goals’ is slightly incorrect in this old adage.
The Serbian midfielder, nicknamed ‘The Spider’, scored his first goal of the season at the weekend - striking a low drive from 25 yards beyond the despairing dive of Braga goalkeeper Eduardo.
Here it is, for those who haven’t seen it…
Now of course you will know the name Nemanja Matic well. A former Chelsea midfielder now being targeted by the Blues, Liverpool and Manchester United he is a favourite of the column inches of our site - as well as many a national paper.
However, despite his obvious talent, many have questioned his monumental price-tag - with a release clause in the ball-park figure of around €40 million in Lisbon - although that was recently said to have dropped to around the £20 million mark.
For that much cash teams will want a little more than an energetic box-to-box man who can break up the play.
They will want goals.
And the Serbian international might just be turning the corner in that respect - after bagging his second goal in as many games against Anderlecht in the Champions League last night.
Matic’s previous best goal return for a season came last term - when he bagged four goals.
He is now half-way toward matching that record before the turn of the year - so perhaps the giant midfielder is ready to add goals to his game.
Which might just justify his price-tag.
