Liverpool are looking to make changes in January but who will make way for incoming bodies? I take a look at 5 players that could potentially leave Anfield.
Liverpool have started the season strongly and could look to strengthen in the January transfer window to hopefully realise their dreams of a top 4 finish, and perhaps they could even enter the title race.
The supporters know that at current they aren't quite good enough for that and a few signings in January to hopefully get them over the line is on the mind of Brendan Rodgers. Unfortunately for some Liverpool players it means if players come in, then some must go out.
Stephen Pickering takes a look at 5 players that could leave this January to make way for new additions.
Martin Kelly - The England international has seen his progression stunted in the past couple of years due to bad knee injury, and unfortunately looks like he may be at the end of the road of his Liverpool career. I say this because earlier in the season when Glen Johnson was ruled out through injury Brendan Rodgers said he would get a chance, despite that he has only played around 50 minutes of first team football this season. He could still be an asset for a Premier League side, so I imagine he could get interest lower down in the league and I think Liverpool could play it shrewdly with a loan move for him.
Iago Aspas - The Spanish striker was signed for around £8 million in the summer and was widely tipped to be an expensive 'stop gap' until Suarez was able to rejoin from suspension, it seems like they were right. The Spaniard hasn't featured for two months and since Suarez has come back into the fray, he hasn't even had a sniff of first-team football. It's not unfair to say the pint-sized striker didn't live up to expectation and even early on, you can see that this move isn't going to be a success, so Rodgers could cut his losses in January if he can drum up interest.
Joe Allen - The miss on Saturday was enough to have the majority of Liverpool fans wanting him out the door, and in January could they have their wish? The Welsh Xavi as he once was known is likely to be able to attract attention from other Premier League clubs because he has proven himself previously at that level, which saw him move to Liverpool in the first place. 1 start, and 3 sub appearances this season shows that Rodgers may not have the full confidence in his man that he once did, and a loan could even be an option.
Raheem Sterling - The English winger has already been widely tipped for a loan move as Rodgers tries to accelerate the progression of the talented youngster. There were rumours circulating about possible loan moves to either a top Championship club, like Derby County or a mid-table/lower end Premier League side in Swansea or West Brom. Although any move is likely to be short-term, it could be a good chance for the player to have a real run at first team football.
Jordon Ibe - The England under-19 international is the same boat as Sterling and is apparently close to signing a new deal, and moving on loan. The extraordinarily talented midfielder has got a great career ahead of him at Anfield, if he wants it. Any loan move will be likely to be purely for progression, as Rodgers looks to bleed him in the team slowly.
Who do you think could leave this January?
