On this day: £12m Taarabt for United, Zaha to Arsenal

Adel Taarabt

On the 27th November 2012 what were the stories that dominated the football landscape? Including Chelsea, Manchester United and Arsenal.

I am casting my eye back to this exact day, the 27th November 2013, but a year earlier.

What were the main tales from that day? What big events were happening in Premier League football?

Here are some of the big scoops from the 27th November 2012…

Knowing me, knowing you ... Zaha?

The Daily Mail reported that Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger had given the green-light for his recruitment team and scouts to put together a deal to sign Crystal Palace winger Wilfried Zaha.

The talented youngster had attracted interest from clubs across the country - but no deal was ever finalised with Arsenal.

Despite the North London clubs strong interest he eventually signed a £15 million deal with Premier League rivals Manchester United in January 2013 - which saw him immediately loaned back to Palace for the rest of the season.

He helped his former club get promoted - but now finds himself languishing in the reserves at United as new boss David Moyes struggles to take a fancy to him.

Adel - 'Someone Like You'

Rumours may not come more ridiculous than this.

A year ago today the then QPR midfielder Adel Taarabt was linked with a shock £12 million move to Manchester United.

The Moroccan international was struggling in the Premier League at the time and the mercurial attacker was reportedly catching the eye of Sir Alex Ferguson.

Obviously, no deal ever happened or, more to the point, no deal was ever in the pipeline.

Nowadays Taarabt can be seen just above Martin Jol - warming the bench for Fulham FC.

Chelsea clattered

Chelsea FC found themselves sort of half apologising for the treatment of Mark Clattenburg.

Remember it all … it was an absolute nightmare.

Ramires thought he heard the ref call John Obi Mikel something which it soon transpired had never been said.

But while The Blues stopped short of a full apology they admitted they regretted not taking more time before issuing a statement on the matter.
