The eye injury to AC Milan's French defender Philippe Mexes that left the club doctors baffled was caused by using a sun bed, according to Tuttosport.
Mexes missed out on the Rossoneri's 3-0 Champions League win over Celtic last night after he failed to make the trip due to an eye injury known as central serous retinopathy.
Milan Vice-President Adriano Galliani labelled the eye problem 'bizarre' and the cause had left the Diavolo medical team stumped.
But reports in Tuttosport suggest that Mexes' problem with his left eye was caused by too much time spent under the bright lights of a sunbed.
The paper suggests that regular visits to tanning salons have given Mexes a healthy glow and claim that he looked suspiciously bronzed during last week's Milan Foundation presentation.
Although there is no definite proof for Tuttosport's claims, they will come as something of an embarrassment to Mexes and Milan.
Mexes is expected to return to action for the Rossoneri's next game away to Catania.
