Moyes and Mourinho 'battle' to sign Croatia midfielder

Reports in England and Croatia claim Manchester United boss David Moyes is preparing to fight it out with Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho to sign Sevilla midfielder Ivan Rakitic.

In England, talkSPORT source Croatian newspaper Jutarnji List as revealing Blues boss Jose Mourinho has already sent his representatives to Spain in order to pursue his interest in the 25-year-old Croatia international.

Rakitic arrived in Sevilla in 2011 from Bundesliga side Schalke 04 where he spent four years after making his name at Basel.

Predominantly deployed as a central midfielder, Rakitic is also linked with interest from Manchester United who hope the playmaker who has scored 7 goals and made 6 assists in just 13 appearances in La Liga this term could add much needed creativity to the champions’ midfield to boost their hopes of retaining the title.

According to the same reports, David Moyes is ‘tracking’ the player whose valuation has sky-rocketed this summer to £15 million following his impressive 8 goals and 10 assists in La Liga last term.

Back in 2011, the Spanish outfit signed him for just €1.5 million but he could very easily be worth ten times that figure now. If these reports are to be believed Mourinho and Moyes could raise his profile even further should a bidding war ensue.

With his contract expiring in 2015, Sevilla will certainly have some concerns over his future, especially given that the Blues and the Red Devils could very easily quadruple his €12,000 a week deal with the Spaniards if they were so inclined.
