Liverpool latest: Road to rehab, winger's delight at award & more

Some of the stories involving Liverpool Football Club this Wednesday evening

Defender Sebastian Coates has said he is making progress ‘slowly but surely’ as he recovers from a knee injury he sustained just before the start of the season. Coates is due to miss the whole of the season but the Uruguayan is trying to remain positive and hasn’t given up hope of making the Uruguay squad for the World Cup.

He told the club’s website: ‘It’s an injury that takes a long time this one and you have to work hard on a day-to-day basis to recover, but fortunately that’s what I’m doing and so I hope to come back fit and well just as soon as I can.

‘It’s been going very well. As I said, it’s a long recovery process for this injury and I think it’s more about how you are psychologically in your head and trying to keep positive in order to be able to get back to full fitness as quickly as possible.’

On-loan winger Victor Moses has been awarded the title of Nigerian Footballer of the Year, something which the 22-year-old said he was ‘proud and honoured’ to receive.

Liverpool’s under-21 side beat PSV Eindhoven 3-1 in a friendly in Holland. Tiago Ilori, Samed Yesil and Jordon Ibe were amongst the most familiar names in the Liverpool side. Jordan Rossiter, Cameron Brannagan and Kristoffer Peterson all got on the scoresheet for the young Reds.

A transfer target may be slipping away from Liverpool according to the Daily Express in the form of 25-year-old midfielder Ivan Rakitic from Sevilla.

Chelsea are believed to be the favourites to sign the Croatian with Manchester United also interested in the player. The report indicates that £13m would be enough for the La Liga side to sell him.
