Last night's 3-0 win away to Celtic saw Milan finally show what they are capable of and move into second place in Champions League Group H.
However, Diavolo coach Allegri remains under pressure after a terrible start to the Serie A campaign, which got worse last weekend with a 1-1 draw against 10-man Genoa.
There have been regular rumours in Italy that Allegri will be axed and it still looks uncertain whether he will be allowed to see out the season.
A number of candidates for the Milan hot seat have been proposed, including Pippo Inzaghi and Clarence Seedorf.
But a new name to add to the frame is Di Matteo, who has been out of work since being sacked by Chelsea last year.
According to Sports Direct News, Di Matteo is one of the options being considered by the Milan directors.
It has been suggested that Allegri has benefitted from the back room chaos at San Siro where Vice-President Adriano Galliani is allegedly set to be sacked by President Silvio Berlusconi.
