Chelsea fans react on Twitter to Azpilicueta performance

Cesar Azpilicueta was solid again for Chelsea despite their loss to Basel.

Chelsea defender Ashley Cole may be an unhappy bunny at present, substitute for the last four Chelsea games, but the man in his place is doing little to warrant being dropped.

Cesar Azpilicueta may have started off 'out of position' in the left-back spot, but it is becoming a role the defender is becoming more and more familiar with.

While the defeat to FC Basel was a disappointing result all-round, the Spaniard was a bright spark for manager Jose Mourinho once again.

He completed seven successful tackles, a figure which stacks up impressively considering the rest of the entire Chelsea team made just nine between them.

If there was a disappointing element to his performance it was that his passing was not better, just 70 per cent completed, while he was unable to offer a substantial outlet going forward - although he was far from the only culprit - the entire Chelsea team did not perform.

He did however make seven effective clearances, more than any other Chelsea defender, illustrating a solidity which Jose Mourinho loves in his teams.

The defender will be disappointed to have marked his 50th Chelsea start with a loss, but the fact the team qualified will have eased the blow.

Here is a look at how supporters reacted to his performance, with plenty of intriguing calls for Branislav Ivanovic to be dropped and him move to the right, to allow Cole back into the team:
