The north London side are eager to add a new centre forward to their squad in the new year, and have been linked with these two international attackers.
The key area that Arsenal need to focus on in the January transfer market is up front, with a new striker needed to provide competition and respite for Olivier Giroud.
The return to fitness or Theo Walcott and the impending availability of Lukas Podolski suggest that the Emirates Stadium outfit do not need a new face in attack with as much urgency, but the north Londoners have been linked with plenty of strikers of late.
Two of the most prominent names to be speculated as potential targets for the Gunners have been Karim Benzema and Christian Benteke. But which would be the better signing if Arsenal were in the position to choose?
France international Benzema has been long-linked with the Gunners, but whether Real Madrid would actually consider selling remains to be seen. There is a likelihood that the Santiago Bernabeu outfit will look to freshen up their striking options at the end of the season, but without signing at least one forward in January, Benzema will not be allowed to leave the Spanish capital.
Benzema plays as a lone frontman for Madrid, with this experience suiting the Gunners. However, the fact that he and Giroud are international team-mates competing for a stating berth for France could cause some friction if they were fighting for a place at club level also.
As such, Benteke would be a much better option. The Belgium international is younger than the Real Madrid man, has experience of English football already and has proven that he has the attributes to be a real success in the Premier League.
With Benteke’s excellent scoring record at Aston Villa, just how many goals he would wrack up with the likes of Mesut Ozil and Santi Cazorla providing throughballs and crosses for him is frightening. Although he recently penned a new deal at Villa Park, there is certainly a feeling that if a big club comes knocking, Paul Lambert will not be able to hold back a striker that is destined for the biggest stage.
Having both Benteke and Giroud to choose from would make Arsenal an even-more imposing attacking unit and give the club the weaponry to fight for major honours either in the second half of this term or next season.
