Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has put the rest of the league on notice.
Arsene Wenger has issued an ominous warning to the rest of the Premier League, and Europe.
He told Arsenal.com: "He is a young player, he is 25 years old so of course there is a lot of room for improvement for him."
It may be funny to think of Wenger referring to him like that, for the German superstar has packed so much into the early part of his career.
While quiet in recent games, Ozil has had a quite sensational start to life with the Gunners, as the following four statistics display:
- Ozil has four assists already, with Steven Gerrard, Kevin Mirallas and Wayne Rooney ahead on five - but they have each played at least two more games.
- He ranks in the top three in the Premier League for key passes per game (2.8), only Luis Suarez and David Silva are above him.
- Ozil ranks in the top seven players in the Premier League for average number of passes per game (66.2) clearly unafraid to get on the ball and dictate play.
- He is Arsenal's most accurate crosser, and ranks in the top 20 Premier League crosses judged on an average per game basis (1.4)
Ozil was dubbed 'king of the assist' in Spain for providing more than any other La Liga player since arriving in 2010, including Lionel Messi.
The fact Arsene Wenger feels he is going to go on and get even better has to be a quite worrying thought for defences round the league, and encouragement to Arsenal fans that the German is the talisman who can power them to the title.
