With seven goals in nine appearances and a goal every 93 minutes for minnows Sassuolo, Berardi is making a good case for being recalled to owners Juventus in the summer.
His efforts are especially impressive when compared to some of Italian football's greats over the last decade.
At the same age, Del Piero had managed only five goals, Totti had four and Gilardino had just two but all three became Azzurri heroes.
Berardi's effect on Sassuolo has been clear to see. Since he returned from suspension after four games, the Emilia-Romagna outfit have fared much better.
The young marksman was crucial in wins over Bologna and Sampdoria and also masterminded the 1-1 draw with a Roma side that had looked more or less invincible.
Juventus sent Berardi to Sassuolo last summer in a co-ownership deal but it is widely expected that he will be brought back to Turin at the end of the campaign.
