Shane Long showed he's in great from in Monday night's 2-2 draw with Aston Villa
Twitter went crazy on Monday night after Shane Long scored the opening goal in West Brom's 2-2 draw with Aston Villa. He controlled the ball beautifully, brought it down well before slotting it past Brad Guzan. He went on to score his second later in the first half.
The reaction on Twitter was generally talking about how good his goals were. Some people spoke about his international prospects too. Not necessarily with Republic of Ireland though. Some were suggesting that Roy Hodgson should include Shane Long in his next squad. They couldn't believe that he had not been called up previously.
Now… I'm pretty sure, but correct me if I'm wrong but it may have something to do with the fact he's not English and already has 43 caps for Republic of Ireland!
These calls came despite Long scoring against England at Wembley earlier this year, in the 1-1 draw with Ireland.

The more educated fans on Twitter then started to say that why should we stop at Long?
Lots of folk tweeting that Shane Long should be in the England squad for next summer's World Cup. Not ahead of Gareth Bale, he won't be!— Rob Smith (@robsmithireland) November 26, 2013
There's been a few silly billies on Twitter calling for Shane Long to get an England call after last night. Er, ok. #RooneyForIreland— Paddy Power (@paddypower) November 26, 2013
Shane Long, Ramsey and Jonny Evans deserve England call ups. It's crazy that they're not even in the squad.— Gunnertwin (@Gunnertwin) November 26, 2013
There was a similar situation last week, when people were surprised that Polish striker Robert Lewandowski was not starting for Germany in the friendly against England. Someone with 56 caps for Poland.
