The Baggies had taken an early lead through a sensational brace from Irish striker Shane Long. The way he took the ball out of the air, and curled it into the net was even compared to Dennis Bergkamp by SkySports pundit Jamie Carragher.
His second was a perfectly judge chip over Brad Guzan after the Villa defence had been caught flatfooted, and the score at half-time was 2-0.
The second half saw a real resurgence from Aston Villa, even though star striker Christian Benteke was unable to get on the scoresheet.
Karim El Ahmadi brought them back into the game in the 67th minute, before Kieran Westwood scored his first goal for the club with a rasping striker from the edge of the box with 15 minutes to go.
Villa could have gone onto win it, and Paul Lambert's 57th minute triple substitution was the game-changer. In the end though, a 2-2 draw was a fair result.
