Shane Long struck a beauty for West Brom on Monday night.
In the last few days of this summer's transfer window, Shane Long was linked with a move away from West Bromwich Albion. Hull City were in pole position to sign him, but the move fell through mainly due to the fact they ran out of time.
I found it remarkable that Steve Clarke was willing to let Shane Long leave. He is a very talented player with great pace, and has now shown in his last two games how important he can be for The Baggies. He scored against Chelsea the other week, before bagging two more on Monday night against local rivals Aston Villa.
The first of his goals scored in the third minute, showed off his ability and skills. It was a lovely goal from the Ireland international. A long ball was played over the top of the Aston Villa defence, and Long kept his eye on the ball, and brought it down with the tip of his right boot perfectly. He then took it past Nathan Baker, before slotting it past Brad Guzan with his left foot. A great goal worthy of any derby fixture.
Long then took advantage of a lapse in concentration from Leonardo Bacuna to put West Brom 2-0 ahead. Karim El Ahmadi and Ashley Westwood scored in the second half though to secure a point for Villa.
We have already seen some great goals this season including Arsenal's wonderfully crafted goal against Norwich City finished off by Jack Wilshere. Also Jordon Mutch's last minute winner against Fulham for Cardiff City. Shane Long's showed a wonderful piece of control, and he finished it off with ease as well. Certainly one of the better goals seen in the Premier League so far this season.
Was Shane Long's goal one of the best you have seen this season?
