Messi 'belongs at Barca' - Bayern chairman

Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has denied Bayern Munich will make an approach for Lionel Messi after rumours emerged that the player might consider quitting the Nou Camp

Bayern Munich chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has said that Barcelona will never sell Lionel Messi.

Bayern have been linked with a move for the Argentine – who has been instrumental in Barcelona’s success ever since he broke into the first team at the Nou Camp has been linked with a move away.

Messi has of course worked with Bayern coach Pep Guardiola at Barcelona – where they won three La Liga titles and the Champions League twice together.

However, Rummenigge has denied that any bid will be made for the Argentinian star who has won the Ballon D’or on four occasions.

He has told German media: ‘We are talking about figures here that are simply absurd, a transfer that is even higher than what we spent on Javi Martinez. We won’t go there.’

‘I know they will never sell Messi. He is a saint at Barcelona.

‘I think it would be in Messi’s best interest to stay at Barcelona. He fits in perfectly, there.’

Rumours surrounding Messi’s future came out towards the end of last week saying that he was ready to turn down the offer of a new contract from the club in favour of a challenge elsewhere.

It seems that even with Bayern’s growing reputation at the moment of being the most formidable club side on the planet that they won’t even go near one of the greatest players to have graced the game given the strong attachment that he has had with the club from such a young age. And even one of the richer clubs in the world know that any fee Messi will command is astronomical.
