Marek Hamsik will have to sit out Napoli's crucial Champions League encounter with Borussia Dortmund and reports in Italy suggest that the Slovakian star took responsibility for getting injured.
Hamsik entered against Parma as a substitute but limped off again after just 10 minutes with a foot injury.
The club have confirmed that Hamsik will now miss out on playing against Dortmund in a test that coach Rafa Benitez has labelled 'game of the year'.
According to Sky Sport, Hamsik's first action after leaving the pitch at the San Paolo was to apologise to Benitez.
The Spanish tactician had reportedly asked Hamsik whether he was certain he was fit enough to play after feeling a twinge in training and the 26-year-old had assured him he was.
It was a rough day at the office for Napoli who also fell to a 1-0 defeat against Parma courtesy of a late Antonio Cassano goal.
Napoli can take some heart from the fact that Dortmund are also having a tough time and lost 3-0 to Bayern Munich at the weekend.
