Bad news for Arsenal? - Napoli suffer huge injury blow

Hamsik to miss crucial Champions League clash against Borussia Dortmund

As if Arsenal’s Champions League group wasn’t looking tight enough already, the Gunners will be more than a little concerned at an injury to Napoli’s playmaker Marek Hamsik.

Group F is tight at the top, with Arsenal and Napoli both on nine points, and Borussia Dortmund just behind on six, with the fifth round of matches to come this week.

Arsenal host Marseille, where they know that a win will take them onto 12 points and within touching distance of qualification for the knockout stages of the competition.

But the worst case scenario for Arsenal is that they fail to defeat Marseille and Dortmund defeat Napoli at home, a situation which would see all three sides vying for qualification in the final round of games.

So an injury to Hamsik is the last thing Arsenal wanted to see. Hamsik limped off through injury inside the last 10 minutes of Napoli’s 1-0 home defeat to Parma, their second league defeat in a row following the 3-0 loss to Juventus.

Hamsik has been in fine form this season, scoring seven goals for the Serie A side, but his absence will be keenly felt by Napoli as they head to the intimidating Westfalenstadion.

Dortmund have been in fine form at home this season, their defeat to Bayern Munich on Saturday represented their first dropped points in the league all season at their own ground - as they also suffer with some major injury absentees.

Hamsik’s injury has ensured that Napoli head to Dortmund with real problems, and Arsenal fans will no doubt be keeping a nervous eye on the scoreline from Germany.
