United’s Madrid star move ‘on the agenda’; defender tipped for £150,000-a-week deal

A select round-up of morning news relating to Manchester United

Yesterday there was no chance, and yet today it remains a possibility. Such is the will-he-won’t-he nature of Cristiano Ronaldo’s long-mooted return to Manchester United.

Despite the Portuguese forward suggesting he may retire at Real Madrid, the Daily Mail believes a summer switch to Old Trafford is still very much on the cards.

Writing in his Football Grapevine column, Rob Shepherd claims “a deal after next summer’s World Cup finals to sign Ronaldo IS on the agenda.”

The report goes on to claim that the new deal Ronaldo recently signed at the Bernabeu will not automatically prevent him from moving on next year. After all, his countryman Nani only recently put pen to paper at United, but he continues to be linked with a move away.

In both cases the contract could have been a way to secure a bigger future transfer fee rather than the players’ own long-term futures. Although of course at this stage it is mere speculation.

In other news, the Daily Star Sunday reports that Patrice Evra will be offered £150,000-a-week by both Monaco and PSG when his current deal at United expires this summer.

With Leighton Baines continually linked with a move to United, could their fans be seeing the last of their long-serving Frenchman?
