All the news, views and transfer rumours from the Etihad this weekend…
The Blues have been majestic at home this campaign, and yet no one would have expected them to put Spurs to the sword in such emphatic style.
Braces from Jesus Navas and Sergio Aguero, along with one for Alvaro Negredo and an own-goal from Sandro, gave City the three points, but they also sent a message to the rest of the Premier League: the Etihad is a fortress few will escape without a hiding.
Speaking to Sky Sports after the match, City manager Manuel Pellegrini praised his team’s performance.
“It is impossible to play better than that,” he said.
“Here at home, the team not only plays, but scores all the chances, and that’s very important.”
It certainly is, and the way the Chilean’s team is going, they could set a new goal-scoring record by May. They just need to sort out their away form now.
Pellegrini also reserved special praise for Aguero, hailing him as one of the best players in the world.
In quotes published by ESPN, Pellegrini said, “I think Kun (Aguero), after Messi and Ronaldo, is (in) the top three players in the world.”
And while the likes of Franck Ribery and Xavi may have something to say about that, there is no doubting the Argentine’s outstanding ability and form.
And finally, Pellegrini has confirmed that Joe Hart will return to the City starting XI for Wednesday’s Champions League match against Viktoria Plzen.
Hart has been replaced for recent games by Costel Pantilimon, but he will take his place between the sticks against the Czech side.
