Tottenham were mauled at Manchester City today, and one of the former players of the victors did not hold back.
Andre Villas-Boas described it as an embarrassing team performance, and really there is no arguing with him.
Their performance sparked a quite astounding rant from QPR midfielder Joey Barton, who lambasted players signed by AVB this summer as 'average.'
You can read his Twitter comments below:
Holtby dragged. Spurs seem to have spent a lot of money on bang average players. Soldado, Paulinho, Lamela and Holtby.— Joseph Barton (@Joey7Barton) November 24, 2013
Baldini has had someone's kegs down massively with these signings. Lamela £30m? Soldado £26m? Paulinho £17m? £109m total spend? Nah...— Joseph Barton (@Joey7Barton) November 24, 2013
I'd destroy both the midfielders Spurs have wasted money on and I'm a championship player. Albeit, an exceptional one...— Joseph Barton (@Joey7Barton) November 24, 2013
They paid £10m more for Lamela than City did for Yaya? Go figure? And Baldini worked for Roma last yr? #smellsfishy— Joseph Barton (@Joey7Barton) November 24, 2013
His last point, criticising the Lamela deal is certainly wide of the mark. If anybody knew what the Argentine is capable of, it would be Baldini - having worked with him at close quarters last season. To compare it to a Manchester City deal made in 2010 is also a bit of a crude comparison.
It's good to see he isn't short of self-confidence, but we are pretty sure Spurs fans wouldn't swap any of their new signings for him instead, right?
