Five destinations for Manchester United’s soon to be Bosman Ferdinand

QPR, the UAE, Antalyaspor, MLS or should he just retire? Where next for Rio Ferdinand?

This summer sees an abundance of Premier League stars currently becoming free agents as their contracts at their respective clubs reach their natural conclusion.

Of course there is still plenty of time in the season for them to earn new deals with their respective clubs - but in a little over a month’s time they can begin to talk to clubs freely, without needing the permission of their current employers under the Bosman ruling.

So who could Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand sign on the dotted line for - if he is not offered a new deal at Old Trafford?

He could join his former boss at West Ham Harry Redknapp back in London.

QPR are looking good for promotion to the Premier League, so Rio would still be playing in the top flight - and following in the footsteps of his baby brother Anton, who spent two years at Loftus Road.

Why follow in Anton’s footsteps when he could simply join his brother at this Turkish club.

Antalya is a lovely city and the team is growing in ambition.

Whether they could afford his wages or not however is a different story.

Rio, as we all know, has done a little bit of punditry in the United Arab Emirates. So why doesn’t he double up and do a bit of playing as well.

Al-Muaither are generally new to the scene but play in a 50,000 seater stadium and are looking for a marquee player.

Could be one last paycheque before hitting the farm?

Philadelphia Union

Rio has a fondness for the States and has often been out there on trips and holidays.

He could make the move permanent. Philly need a new designated player and Rio certainly fits the bill.

The sofa

Rio has long said he will finish his career at Old Trafford - and if he is not offered a new deal in the summer it is likely he will just hang up his boots - especially considering his recent injury troubles.

He could go into coaching, punditry, golf or simply sit back and relax.
