Joey Barton has lambasted Manchester United after slipping to a late draw at Cardiff City.
Manchester United conceded another late goal to drop more points, just as they did at home to Southampton last month.
All credit to Cardiff City for keeping the pressure on United, but already the critics are wading in to focus on the Red Devils, none so more enjoyably than Joey Barton.
The former Manchester City midfielder, now of Championship side QPR, was blunt in his assessment of David Moyes' side.
Easily the worst Man United side in Premiership history this. Don't think they have ever been this weak in middle of the park.— Joseph Barton (@Joey7Barton) November 24, 2013
Barton does not however take account of mitigating factors such as David Moyes' transition as manager, nor injuries to players like Michael Carrick, Robin van Persie and Nemanja Vidic, the spine of their side.
He certainly was not making such comments when United beat Premier League leaders Arsenal in their last game.
United will inevitably be judged against the successful Sir Alex Ferguson teams of the past, but we would hazard a guess that the teams in the mid 2000s which contained Eric Djemba-Djemba and Kleberson in the middle were weaker than this one.
