Chelsea weekend round-up: Italian interest in Mata, Lampard has eyes on title

All the Chelsea weekend news from Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea defeated West Ham this weekend in a dominant display. The Blues were all over The Hammers for the majority of the game yesterday. Frank Lampard bagged a penalty, before Oscar also put one away.

Lampard bagged a second goal to make it 3-0 against his former team.

Lampard now has his eyes set on the title:

"I think we still need to improve in little areas, but if we can find that consistency, with the quality we've got in our squad, we're determined to make a big challenge. That's all we can do week by week. We want to win it this year."

Jose Mourinho is not best pleased with the minimal amount of preparation time he has had to get his team in shape for the upcoming Champions League game with FC Basel.

He has complained specifically about the fact he only had four senior players training with him throughout last week - although he must be reasonably pleased with the performance they put in against West Ham yesterday:

"I don't like this period. I was 11 days with four players - Bertrand, Azpilicueta, Terry and Ba - and the only thing I know about my players is what I watched. I don't know how they trained, how they rested, what they did in between the first and second matches. I know nothing.”

Chelsea loanees Gael Kakuta and Lucas Piazon have helped Vitesse Arnhem claim top spot in Holland again. Piazon bagged two penalties while Gael Kakuta added a third against Go Ahead Eagles that saw them leapfrog Ajax back to the top of the Eredivisie.

Juventus and Atletico Madrid are after Juan Mata.

The Spanish playmaker has not been a regular with Chelsea this season as Jose Mourinho prefers other options.

Last season’s player of the year is now said to be concerned about the detrimental effect it is probably having on his chances of making it to Brazil with Spain.

A loan deal is being mooted.
