Newcastle United ensured it was not a happy return for former manager Chris Hughton, as his Norwich City side were beaten 2-1.
The home side took the lead inside two minutes, when Loic Remy headed in Yohan Cabaye's corner. After that French double-act, it was their countryman Yoan Gouffran who double Newcastle's advantage, tapping home after John Ruddy had saved Shola Ameobi's initial effort.
In truth Newcastle should have had this game sown up long before Leroy Fer halved the deficit with 10 minutes to play. Alan Pardew's men had 21 shots but only five on target - something for the boss to work on in training next week.
The result sees Newcastle climb above Manchester City into eighth in the Premier League. But it will be a long drive home for Hughton and his team, who remain just one point outside the relegation zone.
