Rio Ferdinand took to Twitter earlier today to single out two Everton starlets for special praise.
Everton fans will no doubt be drowning their sorrows this evening after a glorious victory was snatched away with a single flick of Daniel Sturridge’s head.
But for all the disappointment of drawing 3-3 against Liverpool earlier today, they should also take great pride in the Toffees’ performance, and in a manager who has taken them to another level since the departure of David Moyes.
Under Roberto Martinez – and inspired by a free-scoring Romelu Lukaku – Everton now have the beating of anyone. And while that phrase may not have applied today, they also possess – either permanently or on loan – some of the most exciting young talents in European football.
That was something Rio Ferdinand noted earlier today, when he chose not to single out Lukaku for praise, but two of his young teammates.
Following the Merseyside derby, Ferdinand took to Twitter to praise the two young men, hailing Barkley’s ability to beat players and create chances for his teammates, and purring over Deulofeu’s attacking intent.
They may not have inspired Everton to all three points this afternoon, but the future appears extremely bright for both of them.
