CONFIRMED: Everton & Liverpool line-ups – Barkley starts, Sturridge on bench

Everton Goodison Aerial

Here is how Everton and Liverpool will line-up for this afternoon’s match at Goodison Park:

Everton starting XI: Howard, Coleman, Jagielka, Distin, Baines, Barry, McCarthy, Barkley, Pienaar, Mirallas, Lukaku

Subs: Robles, Heitinga, Osman, Stones, Deulofeu, Naismith, Jelavic

Liverpool starting XI: Mignolet, Johnson, Flanagan, Agger, Skrtel, Allen, Henderson, Gerrard, Lucas, Coutinho, Suarez

Subs: Jones, Toure, Alberto, Moses, Sturridge, Sakho, Sterling

What a way to return to domestic matters after yet another international break. The Premier League announces its return with a meeting between the fiercest of rivals – with more than bragging rights on offer.

Should Liverpool win today’s early kick-off, they will return – at least temporarily – to the top of the Premier League. Should Everton win, they will nestle in nicely in third place, behind the Reds only on goal-difference.

Toffees manager Roberto Martinez could have been in the opposite dugout had he accepted an offer to manage Liverpool prior to Brendan Rodgers’ arrival. But instead he will attempt to get one over on them.

Cliché alert! Form does not matter in these matches…so I will not bother mentioning it. Just sit back and enjoy the game.

What do you think the result will be this afternoon?
