Merseyside derby: Five great Everton goals in the Premier League

We take a look at some of the Toffees' best strikes against their great rivals.

Which is your favourite...?

Mikel Arteta (October 17 2010: Everton 2 Liverpool 0)

With Everton leading 1-0 at GoodisonPark thanks to a goal from Tim Cahill, Leighton Baines’s corner was cleared to the edge of the penalty area, where Mikel Arteta took a touch and thundered a shot back through the crowd and past Pepe Reina to put the Toffees two up and seal the win for David Moyes’s side.

Tim Cahill (January 19 2009: Liverpool 1 Everton 1)

This was a typical Tim Cahill goal in many respects. Liverpool were 1-0 up inside the final five minutes when Everton won a free kick to the left of the penalty area. With Anfield audibly nervous, Mikel Arteta drove a free-kick to the near post, and Cahill glanced a brilliant header across Pepe Reina and into the net. Everton’s celebrations were increased by the knowledge that they had seriously dented Liverpool’s title hopes.

Andrei Kanchelskis (November 18 1995: Liverpool 1 Everton 2)

A blistering break from Everton ended with Paul Rideout crossing for Kanchelskis to thump a header in off the post for his first goal for the Toffees. He went and scored another too, as Everton deservedly defeated the Reds on their own turf.

Kevin Campbell (September 27 2009: Liverpool 0 Everton 1)

Another Anfield victory for Everton, who scored early on through Kevin Campbell and then defended resolutely to hold onto their lead. Campbell’s finish was instinctive, a driven shot underneath Liverpool’s new keeper. Sander Westerveld. Gerard Houllier’s new-look Liverpool had no reply, and both Westerveld and Steven Gerrard were sent off as the Reds lost their collective rag.

Olivier Dacourt (April 3 1999: Liverpool 3 Everton 2)

Olivier Dacourt has probably never hit a shot more sweetly before or since this goal. Barely a minute had elapsed when Dacourt picked up a clearance on the edge of the area and sent a left-footed half-volley soaring into the net at the Kop end. It was one of the goals of the season, even if Liverpool did come back to edge a thrilling derby match.
