Are Arsenal going to test Real Madrid's resolve again in January?
Arsenal are plotting a daring attempt to try to sign two of Real Madrid's star players - according to an infamous FIFA agent.
He said: "An English team will be strengthened in the winter and will come to Madrid to try to take two players from the Santiago Bernabéu.
"Arsene Wenger wants Karim Benzema... . Karim, obviously, will not leave in January. It's unfeasible."
"The other player that Arsene has in mind is Raphaël Varane. Their obsession is planned for both in January, but it is unworkable."
Gallardo claimed several weeks ago that an unnamed English team was planning to offer as much as €45 million for Benzema.
He correctly called interest in Mesut Ozil from abroad ahead of his transfer happening, but was threatened with legal action by the player's father for allegedly trying to offer him to Manchester United when he had no formal role in the deal.
Arsenal's need for a striker is well-documented, but it should not be forgotten they were strongly linked with defenders over the summer too, and Varane could become more of an option if Thomas Vermaelen moves on.
We would be inclined to agree with Gallardo on that one, that Madrid are extremely unlikely to sell. With regard to Benzema, if Arsenal offer enough - it may just happen.
