Doris Tillier pays a high price for predicting Les Bleus to miss out
France became the first ever side to overturn a 2-0 deficit to reach the World Cup, as they stormed to a 3-0 win in the second leg of their qualifier in the Stade de France.
The result was met by widespread jubilation – except, perhaps from Tillier, who had, rather rashly, promised to strip off should her country achieve the impossible.
However, the 27-year-old was true to her word, and removed all for her forecast on TV network Canal+…possibly the most-watched weather forecast in French television history.
On the pitch, France produced a stunning performance against Ukraine, who had put themselves in firm control of the tie after their 2-0 win in the first leg.
But Franck Ribery’s shot was turned in by Sakho to give France the crucial opener, before Karim Benzema made it 2-0. Sakho rounded if off when he converted Ribery’s cross.
Ukraine’s nightmare was completed by a red car for Yevhen Khacheridi, who received yellow cards for fouls on Sakho and Ribery.
