The Good, The Bad and The Ugly of Arsenal's season so far

Arsenal sit top of the Premier League, but what has gone well and what has been disappointing about their season so far?

Here's everything you need to know about the Gunners' 2013/14 to date...

The Good

Wenger has overseen an amazing start to the season, but he's done it in a number of ways. The £42.5m signing of Mesut Ozil broke Wenger's mould, but he also brought in Mathieu Flamini on a free transfer which, whilst mocked at the time, has proven to be a good move. Aaron Ramsey has exploded onto the scene this season, whilst with a settled centre back partnership of Laurent Koscielny and Per Mertesacker, the Gunners are a lot sturdier in defence. The 1-0 Champions League win over Borussia Dortmund was a sign of how far Arsenal have come this season.

The Bad

Their 1-0 defeat at Old Trafford was a blow, and it will be fascinating to see how Arsenal bounce back from that loss. The 2-1 reverse to Dortmund at the Emirates Stadium was a disappointment, but The Gunners were by no means embarrassed in that game. You could make a case for their transfer activity over the summer still not being quite enough, but the arrival of Ozil has papered over that particular crack, and expect Wenger to sign a new striker in the New Year.

The Ugly

Whilst their results since the opening day have been outstanding, their 3-1 thumping at the hands of Aston Villa was embarrassing. Fans were rightly disgruntled after watching Paul Lambert's side pick the Gunners apart in their own back yard. It has however been the one major blot on Arsenal's copy book this season, and a similar display hasn't been seen since.

A – Wenger has hit back at his critics with a strong start to the season, both in the league and in a tough Champions League group. Most people expect Arsenal to fall away, and whilst their 1-0 defeat at Manchester United could seriously damage their chances, it all depends on how they bounce back. So far, so good.
