Same as Ozil - Shock Liverpool star on par for open play chance creation

Liverpool Ball

Which Liverpool midfielder has created the same number of chances from open player as Arsenal's £42 million man?

Arsenal's Mesut Ozil is regarded as the best playmaker in the Premier League, despite just arriving a matter of months ago.

The German sits joint top when it comes to assists (4), with Aaron Ramsey, Sergio Aguero, Steven Gerrard, Wayne Rooney, Olivier Giroud and Kevin Mirallas.

In terms of chances created his 24 places him third to David Silva (27), and Steven Gerrard (29).

Most of Gerrard's key passes however come from set pieces, and he is not even the most creative Liverpool player from open play.

Step forward Jordan Henderson.

The English midfielder is enjoying his best season to date in a Liverpool shirt, winning a recall to the England squad - and on form is even a more reliable pick than Jack Wilshere, and certainly Tom Cleverley.

Remarkably Henderson matches up to Mesut Ozil when you count chances created from open play this season, both providing 18 chances for their teammates.

Chelsea's Eden Hazard sits top of the list on 22, with Sergio Aguero of Manchester City on 19.

Ozil and Henderson are joined on 18 by Moussa Sissoko of Newcastle, making them the five most creative players in the Premier League to date this season.

There is a differential, with Henderson playing three games more than Ozil, 11 against eight, but simply having his name up there is testament to his rapid development as a performer this season.

If Henderson is in touching distance of Ozil come the end of the season in this regard, he will have had quite a campaign.

It must be a little frustrating for the midfielder that he has just one assist to his name, but he appears a selfless type, and as long as Liverpool are doing well - any individual accolades will surely come second, but still his brilliant season to date deserves recognition.
