Cardiff City prepare January gamble for Portuguese forward

The Daily Mirror claims that Bluebirds boss Malky Mackay is preparing a January move for Braga striker Hugo Vieira.

As Cardiff City continue to struggle for firepower, the south Wales side have been linked with a move for out-of-favour Portuguese forward Hugo Vieira.

Vieira, 25, is understood to be seeking a move after a lack of first team opportunities at current club SC Braga.

The former Benfica forward spent time last season on loan at Gil Vicente, during which time he scored eight goals in fourteen appearances.

The Daily Mirror claims that Cardiff manager Malky Mackay is prepared to gamble on Vieira as his side go in search of increased fire-power, something desperately needed at the Cardiff City Stadium.

Steven Caulker, Jordon Mutch and Fraizer Campbell top the club's scoring charts with two goals each, whilst big-money signing Andreas Cornelius is yet to register a Premier League goal, having been sidelined through injury.

It is thought that Cardiff could face competition from La Liga side Elche, whose manager Fran Escriba is particularly fond of Vieira. Elche are currently 13th in La Liga after fourteen games.

Despite his impressive loan form, the Braga forward appears to have done little to convince manager Domingos Pacienca of his claim for a first team berth, and City boss Mackay is prepared to end Vieira's Braga woes.
