Philipp Lahm linked with Chelsea? Nope, I'm not buying it!
Welcome to the Transfer Bin, where the most ludicrous transfer rumours are quickly dealt with and thrown into the trash...
The rumour mill has been working in full flow recently, and the newest two names picked out the hat are Philipp Lahm and Chelsea.
According to Swiss website infoticker.ch, Jose Mourinho has set his sights on an ambitious move from Bayern Munich skipper Phillipp Lahm to replace the experienced Ashley Cole when his contract expires at the end of season.
First thing is first - Cole is a left-back and Lahm is predominantly a right-back, while he can play both sides - immediately something doesn't feel right about this one.
Now, it may be true that Ashley Cole will be allowed to leave Chelsea at the end of the season, although due to his relationship with Jose Mourinho I would still expect him to stay on and win a contract.
Ashley Cole was reportedly close to leaving last season before signing his one year extension in January 2013, and has recently voiced his passion to stay on at the West London side. The relationship with manager Jose Mourinho will stand him in a good place when negotiating a deal, and in all honesty, it would be surprising if Chelsea were to let him walk at the end of his current deal.
Even if they do let Cole leave they already have his replacement waiting in the wings, in the form of Cesar Azpilicueta. The 24-year-old - who has switched sides from the right, has earned praise from the Chelsea management and is currently in the driving seat as Ashley Cole has been told to win his place back after a short-term spell out through injury. Ryan Bertrand also waits in the wings, while Southampton's Luke Shaw has also been linked.
Regardless of all that, there is always the problem with what Bayern Munich will think of this. I don’t imagine they will entertain the idea of allowing their long-serving captain and key player over to a Champions League rival, or anybody for that matter.
And as for the player, Philipp Lahm is currently captain for European Champions and the German national squad. He has a very good chance of winning the Bundesliga and the national trophies in Germany, the Champions League with Bayern Munich and also the World Cup with Germany.
With respect to Chelsea, I don’t think he will be wanting out of Bayern Munich and they have no reason to sell him.
