Tottenham latest: Sandro up for Fernandinho war, teen prodigy link & more

A round-up of the latest news related to Tottenham Hotspur this Wednesday evening.

Left-back Zeki Fryers believes that a good defensive record for Tottenham could be the catalyst to make and sustain and challenge for the Premier League title this season.

Spurs have so far kept seven clean sheets from their 11 league games this season, and Fryers told the club’s website: ‘It is a positive for the defenders keeping clean sheets because, although as a team you obviously need to score, you’ve got to defend as well to help win games. We’ve got a lot of high-calibre players in the group, very good players – excellent players in fact – and we’ve got the personnel to allow us to take part in lots of different competitions.’

Winger Andros Townsend has said he is not getting carried away after last night’s performance for England against Germany, and wants to maintain his good form for Tottenham.

Townsend is quoted in the Evening Standard as saying: ‘We have got six or seven months of club form [before the World Cup] and I have got to keep playing well for Spurs. Hopefully I can secure my place on the plane but it is too early to say. Everybody has got to put England to one side now and focus on playing well for their club.’

Midfielder Sandro has told the club’s website he is relishing the prospect of going head-to-head with Fernandinho when Spurs travel to the Etihad Stadium to take on Manchester City on Sunday.

The Brazilian internationals are good friends, and Sandro said: ‘He’s a very good player, very quick in midfield. He can play defence and also play forward.

‘He’s also great on the ball. We have to push him, put him under pressure and look after him – and not just him. City have lots of good players, but so do we and we will give everything.’

Spurs target Alen Hilolovic has hinted he would like to move to the Premier League or La Liga according to a report in the Daily Express.

The 17-year-old Croatian was downplaying a move to Serie A. He was also a target of Spurs during the summer, with Arsenal also rumoured to be interested.

He is quoted as saying: ‘Yes, I love English and Spanish football, and during last summer I was near to a particular club, and they are still tracking me.’
