In a press conference today the Manchester United and Arsenal target revealed his injury status.

A lot will be said if something happens to a German treasure – not a Bastian Schweinsteiger, Mesut Ozil, Miroslav Klose type caliber of treasure, but more the young prospect kind of treasure.

As we reported earlier, Ilkay Gundogan is one of the most talented and versatile players in Germany. Injuries haven’t stopped stories about his future but German fans and Jogi Low, Germany’s national manager, remain fearful especially now after midfielder Sami Khedira suffered a knee injury.

The Ilkay Gundogan story got a new spin. In a press conference today the Manchester United and Arsenal target, who has been out for month with a back injury, revealed his status.

'Slowly but surely it is getting better, the trend is rising. I even have been doing sprint training, work well in the conditional area. There are only a few percentage points,' he told German tabloid Bild. Another daily quoted the 23-year-old: 'It is important that I am 100% fit. Before that, I will not return.'

However the German international gave hope by saying 'it’s quite possible' to play after the winter break. 'I will come back stronger,' Gundogan continued.

Different sources are confirming the possibility of Gundogan’s return, however his unfinished contract situation with Borussia Dortmund has yet to evolve. Dortmund’s management still hopes to re-sign Gundogan at the same time transfer rumors about a potential move to Real Madrid, Manchester United or Arsenal refuse to fade away.
