Everton loanee Romelu Lukaku is being tipped by Mundo Deportivo as one of ten favourites for the award handed to the best player under 21 for 2013.
Italian media source Tuttosport give out an award each year for the best young player in Europe - the ‘Golden Boy’ award.
In the past the likes of Lionel Messi, Wayne Rooney and Cesc Fabregas have been rewarded the trophy in recognition of their vast potential - and in most cases the award is given to a recipient who in turn proves it was correct to be bestowed with such an accolade.
This year’s shortlist is as ever not very short at all. In fact 40 names make up the list.
The Premier League however can be very proud, with ore names on the list than any other league and Arsenal can hold particular distinction. The Gunners have more nominees than any other team with three in total - Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Yaya Sanogo and Serge Gnabry.
So there will be a morsel of hope at London Colney that one of their young supremoes can be given the award.
However Spanish source Mundo Deportivo does not believe so.
The award is handed out this month and they took the chance this week to name their ten favourites for the honour.
They named Julian Draxler as their personal choice, while the likes of Paul Pogba, Geoffrey Kondogbia and Bruma were also included.
However there is only room for one Premier League player on the list - not one of Arsenal’s starlets.
They have also overlooked both Adnan Januzaj and Matija Nastasic while Kenneth Omeruo and Tiago Ilori of Chelsea and Liverpool respectively are both ignored.
Instead they have tipped Romelu Lukaku, on loan at Everton from Chelsea, as a potential winner of the award - following in the footsteps of last year’s winner Isco.
The Belgian has been in superb form throughout 2013 for both West Brom and Everton - while also performing well for Belgium when asked to do so.
They rank him as the fourth favourite for the award - and we would certainly not be surprised if the 20-year-old did get the nod as the ‘Golden Boy’ of 2013.
