Revealed: Flamini had pick of clubs but could finish career at Arsenal

The ball-chasing midfield hound-dog has claimed that sides from across Europe were interested but he only had eyes for Arsenal.

One of the most highly-rated midfield hustlers, Mathieu Flamini, has never cost a dime in terms of transfer fees as, like his switch to Arsenal earlier this year, he has always been acquired on a gratis basis.

The recruitment may not have been the one Gunners fans craved - after all, they longed for a costly marquee name like Mesut Ozil - but the Frenchman's form has been just as crucial to Arsenal's overall status atop the Premier League season, as the German's.

Flamini, in his previous employment, was training with players such as Paolo Maldini, David Beckham, Kaka and Ronaldinho, however, he allowed his contract to run it's course and rejected a two-year renewal.

Speaking to the club's official website, he also explained that he had: 'the possibility of other clubs in Italy, in England, in Germany even. But for me it was the chance to come back to Arsenal, with the team we have right now, to work with Arsene Wenger again.

'It was basically him who introduced me to the top level. He brought me into the Premier League and into the Champions League, so I didn’t think twice when I had the chance to come back. I just said, “Let’s do it.” Now I’m here and happy, and looking forward to having an amazing season.'

The 29-year-old also explained that he would not rule out his summer transfer being his last and finishing his career at the Emirates Stadium: 'I’m really happy here, so why not? It’s a very important club for me. I really see myself here for a long time. In football, everything is possible.'
