“I’m just going to continue to work hard and try to push my way into the first team now.”
Benik Afobe returned from a cruciate knee ligament injury last week which caused him to miss eight months of action, performing against Aston Villa for Arsenal's under-21 side.
He told Arsenal's website ahead of Tuesday evening's clash against Norwich he had every intention of aiming for the first team.
That mission is so far on track after scoring the winning goal for Arsenal in their under-21 match with the Canaries, a match in the inaugural Premier League Cup, which finished 1-0.
Afobe netted just before half-time, and was withdrawn after 50 minutes for Chuba Akpom - with management looking to preserve his fitness.
The 20-year-old striker has a way to go before reaching the first team, he needs to improve his fitness levels, but with regular games for the under-21s.
If he can do that then you will be hard pushed to find an Arsenal fan who would rather see Nicklas Bendtner playing and backing up Olivier Giroud than Afobe.
