Arsenal latest: Wilshere captain ambition and Ramsey returns to fitness

All the news and gossip from the past 24 hours at The Emirates.

Arsenal are set to battle Tottenham Hotspur for the services of Croatian wonderkid Alen Halilovic of Dinamo Zagreb.

The player, dubbed the ‘next Luka Modric’, has been a long term target for Spurs and was expected to finally sign for them in the summer. However no deal ever came to fruition and he has since been linked with both Bayern Munich and CSKA Moscow.

However The Gunners are now said to be eyeing him up.

Arsenal’s former playmaker Andrey Arshavin has admitted he is surprised by the form shown by his former club this season - but that now they have started so well, and signed Mesut Ozil, he can see them winning the Premier League:

"Arsenal are playing much better than they have over the last two or three years. I was surprised that they won so comfortably against Liverpool, because they too are in excellent form right now. The signing of Ozil has brought stability to the side and now this season Arsenal have a real chance to finish in first place."

Arsenal have two key players fit for the game with Southampton this weekend. Theo Walcott has recovered from a stomach operation in time to play against his former team.

Aaron Ramsey, who was originally reported as being ill on international duty with Wales, actually had a hamstring injury which he has recovered from.

QPR have admitted that goalkeeper Julio Cesar can leave for free in January. The Brazilian number one, who has lost his place in the team to Robert Green, are ready to let him leave for nothing.

Harry Redknapp stated:

“He needs to play and I feel he’s a player who could play for any team in the world. We won’t stand in his way. We’ll let him go for free.”

Arsenal are being linked with bringing him in to the club this January.

Finally and Jack Wilshere wants to become captain of the club in the future.

The England international said:

"I've grown up at this club and I have captained the club at under-16 level, under-18 level and last season as well I got the armband for 20 minutes or so, which was a nice feeling. I want to do that for this club."
