Athletic Bilbao’s prized asset Iker Muniain found himself on the scoresheet for Spain under-21s as they beat Albania.
Once upon of time, the young promising Spaniard was dubbed the ‘Spanish Messi’ due to his playing style, stature and ability.
A few years down the line and the hype has seemingly died down somewhat, but the young talent has continued to impress and has recently been the shining light of an incredibly strong Spanish under-21 side.
The Spanish under-21 side is renowned as the best youth side in the world, and they continued to show their quality in a 2-0 win over opponents Albania. Goals from Muniain and Deulofeu saw them extend their lead at the top of Group 4 in the European Under-21 Football Championship Qualification table, where they have yet to record anything other than a win.
Iker Muniain has always remained a very loyal player to Athletic Bilbao and has hinted in the past that he would like to stay at the club, despite a line of many suitors. Last month the young talent commented on his contract situation which comes to an end in 2015:
‘’This is not going to be a soap opera. When the times comes we will talk. There will be no issues’
Manchester United have long been reported to be very keen on the talented young attacking player for some years under Sir Alex Ferguson, and Arsenal have been credited with keeping an eye on him to. Worryingly for them the current form, and show of promise has also got the Spanish giants on high alert, who will be much more favoured by the player.
A true talent, and one to keep an eye on – whether he goes to your team or not.
