Report: Arsenal's Giroud to be dropped for Benzema

Arsenal striker Olivier Giroud is on the verge of being dropped for France's World Cup qualifier.

France face a do or die World Cup qualifying second leg on Tuesday night against Ukraine, and one player who said he was willing to give his life for the cause is on the verge of being dropped.

Olivier Giroud spoke last night of his anger at the 2-0 first leg defeat, and determination to make amends.

However it appears he will not be given the opportunity to do so from the start, with Karim Benzema poised to return as a starter.

French newspaper L'Equipe write: "The first significant change concerns the position of center forward. After starting in the last five matches of Les Bleus, Olivier Giroud will this time take place on the bench."

Benzema is in far better form at present than Giroud, having scored four goals and provided four assists in his last four games for Real Madrid.

Giroud currently is without a goal in his last four start for Arsenal, extended to a fifth in all competitions by virtue of his goalless display against Ukraine on Friday.
