Manchester City latest: Striker hints at January move; Napoli defender linked

All the latest news, views and transfer rumours from the Etihad…

As England prepare to face Germany tomorrow evening, Three Lions boss Roy Hodgson has given his support to Manchester City goalkeeper Joe Hart.

The Blues’ stopper has been in the spotlight following a series of costly mistakes, but in quotes published by the Independent Hodgson said Hart was “in the right frame of mind”.

He added that he was not in the position to only pick players who were turning out regularly for their club sides.

But I am more than happy that Joe is ready,” Hodgson added. “He will be anxious to show everyone that he is still a very good goalkeeper.”

One player who could ultimately be playing in front of Hart at club level is Napoli defender Paulo Cannavaro; at least according to Talk Sport.

They have taken the player’s agent’s claim that Lazio will not move for the out-of-favour Italian as reason enough to link him once again with an Etihad switch.

While City’s defensive worries continue, much of that is down to persistent injuries. But with Joleon Lescott likely to move on in the near future, Manuel Pellegrini is likely to move for a fourth central defender to compete with Vincent Kompany, Matija Nastasic and Martin Demichelis.

And finally, John Guidetti has hinted that a January move is on the cards as he attempts to play the regular first-team football he craves.

The striker has suffered considerably in recent times, with injuries and a debilitating illness.  But now fit and ready to go, he told TV4, “I want to play football. Whether that is at Manchester City or somewhere else, I don’t know.

Right now, it’s a matter of training and fighting. Then, in January and onwards, it’s time to show.”

Given the strikers ahead of him at City, any “showing” is likely to be done elsewhere.
