January deal could solve Manchester United's longest running mystery

If Manchester United loan Anderson to Fulham as suggested, it could draw a line under a long running mystery at Old Trafford.

Is Anderson good enough for Manchester United? Six years after he first signed he has been unable to prove yes, and so by default the answer to that question should be 'no'.

Observers who have watched the Brazilian closely since his arrival at Old Trafford will have at times seen flashes of real quality among large periods of indifference, which is why he in recent weeks has been far removed from the starting line-up.

Former United first team coach Rene Meuelensteen has last week signed a deal to work under Martin Jol at Fulham as head coach, bringing with him quite possibly very lazy suggestions that he could look to help secure former United midfielder Anderson on loan.

The former FIFA under-17 Golden Ball winner should leap at the chance to move to Fulham in January if it actually comes along, for it represents a real chance to play regular football.

At 25-years-old he needs to be playing week-in week-out, but is now going backwards. He has just two Premier League starts all season, and has appeared just once off the bench.

It appears as though David Moyes has given up on him, but Anderson may have a chance to prove his boss wrong in upcoming weeks with midfielder Michael Carrick out injured.

A loan move to Fulham however will be a far better bet by which to evaluate his future. Whenever Anderson has found form or got a run in the side he has found his progress stunted by injury.

If he can become a starter in West London, which is of course presumptuous, and shine, then he can show United he is at least of value - or simply put himself in the shop window for a summer transfer.

If however, Anderson moves to Fulham and cannot cut it - It will solve United's longest running mystery and affirm finally that his Old Trafford career is at an end.
