Portuguese U-turn over reported Manchester United target Iheanacho?

After reporting that Kelechi Iheanacho was on his way to FC Porto, the Portuguese press are now not so sure.

Yesterday we brought you the news that reported Manchester United target Kelechi Iheanacho was set to ignore considerable interest from the Premier League and move to FC Porto.

While Portuguese newspaper A Bola ran with the story, they cited website MTNFootball as the initial source, claiming the star of the under-17 World Cup was just days away from joining up with his news teammates at the Estadio do Dragao.

But now A Bola has changed its tune – or at least their source – picking up on reports from England that Manchester United have joined the race for the 17-year-old Nigerian who was already attracting considerable interest from both Arsenal and Chelsea.

The latest source is the Mirror, so in truth A Bola are no more in the know than the rest of us on this one.

The only thing that does appear clear is that Iheanacho is highly sought after, as you would expect of a player who scored six goals and laid on seven assists as his country sealed the under-17 World Cup trophy.

Wherever he ends up, he has a long way to go before he turns ‘wonder-kid’ status into ‘full-fledged star’. But expect the stories to continue until a decision is made one way or the other.
